Robert Hayes Obituary – Robert Hayes, of Hickory NC, passed on at home on August 14. He was brought into the world in Charlotte on March 31, 1947. Robert was gone before in death by his folks, Margaret Adelaide Palmer Hayes and William James Hayes. He lost his adored child, Christopher Cummings Hayes, in 2015.
Survivors incorporate his significant other of 19 years, Julia Grimes Hayes; little girl Erin Adelaide Hayes and spouse Thomas Cogan; step-girl Elizabeth Hunsaker and husband Jordan; and two stage grandkids.
Robert served in the US Army as an Intelligence Officer in Special Forces (Green Berets) at the position of First Lieutenant. Decorations he procured incorporate a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, a Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Jump Wings, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Robert acquired a BA in English and a MA in Human Development and Learning at UNC-Charlotte. He showed secondary school English and chipped in at the Veterans Center in Charlotte; filled in as a psychotherapist in private practice in Charlotte and as supervisor for the ladies’ unit in the work discharge program for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office; and functioned as a volunteer guide and teacher in the First-Year Seminar program at Catawba College in Salisbury.
Robert (Bix) Hayes was “our number one veteran,” “the best man who at any point lived,” and “the best father there at any point was.”
